Welcome to the Aisle of Style Tips & Trends Update: Spring Edition

This April marks the two-year anniversary for Aisle of Style. There has especially been a great deal of growth over the past nine months – from media exposure to additional services.

In the summer and fall of ’06 I received two opportunities to be quoted in the Denver Post style section. I also began writing contributing fashion articles for local publications such as Inside Denver and CORE. The biggest media success of all has been being included in a recent editorial feature on Colorado image consultants (see Colorado Expression magazine -- April/May 2007 issue).

These rewarding accomplishments have been the result of a lot of hard work and the encouragement from my Aisle of Style supporters. It is the ongoing kudos that I receive from you ladies that brings me inspiration. For this I thank you!

With all this reflection on the accomplishments over the past year, I think it is only appropriate that we look ahead at the season’s fashions.

Despite the cold weather we’ve been having, we can still prepare for the coming days of lasting sunshine. So let’s get a run down of what to sport from head to toe this spring.

Tips

How to Give Your Closet a little Spring Clean−Up

Apply these three rules when making your first attempt at cleaning out your closet this spring.

  1. Throw out anything you haven’t worn in the past two years. If you haven’t worn it by now, you won’t likely wear it in the next two months. But someone else sure will, so consider donating to your local Dress for Success (Denver office: 303 832-1889).

  2. Get rid of any garments that don’t fit or that find you less than excited about the way you look. This is your excuse to invest in replacement pieces that flatter your figure and find you feeling like a stylish diva.

  3. Say goodbye to any of the colors that do little for your complexion. You want to hold on to the hues that bring you compliments, not those that bring the lack thereof.

Trends

CAPE & BOLERO JACKETS : Think geometric volume

  • Should hit above the hip
  • Works well with high-waisted skirts and pants
  • Tailor-made for spring layering

DRESS SHORTS : Think subtly sexy

  • Above the knee-length OR one inch below the hip (flatters long shapely legs)
  • Worn belted with tailored shirts, flirty tops or cropped, fitted jackets
  • Always make sure this look is worn in toned down hues (i.e. brown, beige, black)

FULL PRINT SKIRTS : Think stylishly demure

  • Knee-length styles provide a more grown-up look than the girly shorter lengths
  • Wear higher heels for leg flattery
  • Pair with a slim-fitting top or a hugging blouse to accentuate the waist (helps legs look skinnier)

DRESSES : Think hot, hot, HOT!

  • Daringly short and sexy leggy lengths - go the safer route when paired with pants
  • Flowy & romantic styles look stylish when belted
  • Bubble dresses look sexy when strapless
  • Tunic styles complement skinny pants

ACCESSORIES : Think daring and personality defining!

  • Colorful plastic purses, jewelry and shoes – great for stylish accents
  • Metallic heels, belts, bags and shoes – shiny statements when worn in moderation
  • Hats, headbands and fabric wraps – remain stylish on bad hair days
  • Belts of all widths – figure flattering with dresses and long tops
  • Round-toe cork wedges – fun with summer dresses
  • Ballet flats – stylishly casual
  • Peep-toe shoes – great with full skirts
  • Wood Platforms – great with long jeans and flirty, knee-length summer dresses
